Geert Groote College in Amsterdam is a public Waldorf secondary school for 880 pupils, where the personal development of the pupil plays a central role.
In addition to the various subject lessons, Geert Groote College offers “period education” (Periodeonderwijs), in which the first two lessons of the day over a period of three weeks are given on one single subject. Periodeonderwijs allows more depth and includes subjects such as astronomy, explorers, the skeleton, the medieval period, robotics or sculpture.
Geert Groote College's vision is based on the ideas of Rudolf Steiner. His didactical and pedagogical recommendations for primary and secondary school education give the teacher freedom to choose materials according to the specific class situation. Teaching methods are not used in period education. The role of the teacher is therefore fundamental. Creativity, music and art subjects are considered as important as others.
The Complex of Economics Schools was created in 1920 in Torun which is called a town of Nicolaus Copernicus. The school went through the different types of organization.
